How 4G Mobile Broadband would change the Mobile Phone Market in UK

How 4G Mobile Broadband would change the  Mobile Phone Market in UK

Thanks to EE, half of the UK population now has 4G mobile broadband

4G mobile broadband has now extended to 50 cities and towns which would cover over half of the UK population.

EE, the mobile phone company to provide faster 4G mobile broadband in UK , has announced that the service launched five months ago and would now reach Reading, Bradford, Bingley, Doncaster, Dudley, Harpenden, Leicester, Lichfield, Loughborough, Luton, Shipley, St Albans and West Bromwich in addition to the 37 towns and cities already covered.

The company, formerly known as Everything Everywhere, has been focusing its efforts on rolling out what 4G services it can before rivals gain access to spectrum bought in the recent auction and launch products in the summer.

How faster 4G mobile broadband would work in UK

EE is using its existing 1800Mhz spectrum, repurposed for 4G, rather than using any spectrum bought under the new spectrum auction. It would  charges from about £14.99 per month.
Chief executive of EE, Olaf Swantree said we are remaining ahead of our schedule to equip UK consumers and businesses with 4G,"

He also add that “our customers are at the heart of our rollout and we are working hard to deliver 4G to 70 per cent of the UK population by the end of this year, and 98 per cent of the population by the end of 2014.”

EE has also announced that 4G was being rolled out to one of the most rural areas of Britain. The company said that it would make 4G available across much of the Northern Fells, delivering speeds of up to 12Mbps over 100 square miles in area that claims the UK’s highest concentration of home workers.

More than 2,000 residents will get high-speed broadband with headline speeds claiming up to 20 Mbps. This would come as a very positive news to the rural areas in UK

BT is current finalizing its trials in rural Cornwall, funded in part by European money, to experiment with the best ways of deploying wireless and fixed broadband in very remote countryside.

EE, which has been trialing the Cumbrian service since last year, said it will evaluate usage and behavior and could develop other plans specific to rural customers.

TU Go app by O2 UK allows mobile phone users to call, text and access voicemail via the internet

TU Go app by O2 UK allows mobile phone users to call, text and access voicemail via the internet

TU Go app by O2 is free to download for its contract customers, allows mobile phone users to call, text and access voicemail via the internet on any compatible device, using their existing telephone number

O2 has this week launched its TU Go VoIP application, which will allow UK mobile phone users to make and receive calls, texts and voicemail over the internet using their existing telephone number.

The service, available on all Apple and Android devices, is free to download for O2 contract customers, with the calls and texts taken from their existing bundle.

Customers using TU Go will be able to make and receive calls and texts from anyone on any network, even if the recipient doesn’t have the app installed. O2 will deliver calls, texts and voicemail as normal so contacts won’t notice anything different.

O2 UK’s  marketing and consumer director Sally Cowdry said: “For the first time, TU Go will mean customers can use their O2 number across a huge range of different devices. It will extend the O2 phone number and package far beyond just the mobile handset.

“TU Go is a statement of intent from O2 to other UK service providers: that we will continue to develop services that meet the existing demands of our customers and will go beyond those creating new products that open their eyes to the possibilities that mobile technology can deliver.”

Affirm enters the UK fast-growing mobile payments business and mobile commerce.

Affirm  enters the  UK fast-growing mobile payments business and mobile commerce.

PayPal Co founder launches rival business called Affirm that lets you pay with two taps on a smart mobile phone.

Affirm UK  which is owned by Max Levchin, co-founder of the online payment giant plans to compete in the crowded and UK fast-growing mobile payments business.

Affirm UK's technology will help the mobile phone UK  shoppers complete online purchases more quickly and easily when they are using smartphones , tablets and other devices.

eBay is now the owner of PayPal, which is one of the leaders in online payments, however, the company is being challenged by a host of start-ups, including, o2, Barclay, Square etc. that all focus on new opportunities and problems created by the boom in mobile phone commerce.

Affirm UK is focusing on streamlining the mobile checkout process online, which currently involves typing in lots of information, like address, card numbers etc. using a small type pad.

Affirm also said it has whittled the online buying process down to two taps on a smart phone screen - one to tap the Affirm button on participating merchant websites and a second to confirm the order.

Affirm is using Facebook to confirm users' identities, so for first-time users the process includes a third step which involves logging into their Facebook accounts and accepting the Affirm application.

Mr Levchin co-founded PayPal with Peter Thiel and was its chief technology officer for four years, before it was acquired by eBay. He designed and built PayPal's pioneering online security and fraud-prevention systems.

Affirm said it plans to gives UK users 30 days to pay for their purchases, comparing the service to a charge card. It makes money by charging participating merchants a small fee.

However, if users do not pay their balance, Affirm can charge "reasonable" fees on delinquent accounts, according to the company's terms of service.

Affirm users can pay off their balances using credit cards, bank transfers or physical checks. PayPal was not included as a method of payment in its terms of service.

Last week PayPal UK announced the  launched a new chip and pin machine to offer small traders such as ice cream sellers, market stall holders and taxi drivers a way to accept card payments.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 4G UK review

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 is just one of many devices that are pushing the average smartphone screen size with its main focus on films, TV and surfing the web on bigger devices.

Where the Note 2 wants to reinvent the pocket notebook the Note 10.1, however, has even grander ambitions. It nudges towards replacing picture-editing on a PC and replacing all your handwritten scrawlings on paper.

Key to both of those is still the S-Pen. It cleverly uses a small on-screen circle so that you can do things simply by hovering above the Note 2, rather than touching it.

The effect is to add a kind of right-click option to a pen, as well to let you write directly on screen to make notes or draw pictures.
The difficulty is that the handwriting recognition is not good enough for me to use the Note 10.1 in the same way that I would use a standard notebook. Where the smaller Note 2 is excellent for quick jottings and easy to type on, the 10.1 encourages greater use but is less responsive to it, and isn’t as quick to type on because of its touchscreen.

iPhone 5 (full review, price and reaction)

Inside the iPhone 5 and all you need to know  (full review, price and reaction)

Looks of the iPhone 5

The Apple iPhone 5 looks a lot like the iPhone 4S but it's thinner, by 18 per cent, and lighter, by 20 per cent. The screen is taller too, at 4-inches corner to corner, but the phone, held in portrait mode, is the same width. Instead of a glass back, the iPhone 5 back and sides are made from a single piece of aluminium.

Inside the iPhone 5

The handset is powered by an A6 processor, an upgrade from the A5 chip in the iPhone 4S and the A5X in the latest iPad. Apple says the A6 delivers CPU and graphics performance that is twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. It has been rumoured that the iPhone 5 has more RAM too - 1GB, compared with 512MB in the 4S - but this has not been confirmed.

The Camera
Though the camera is still 8-megapixels, Apple says that performance will be improved by the new A6 processor. The iPhone 5 also has better low-light performance and a new panorama mode.
Can I get 4G if I get an iPhone 5?
The iPhone 5 will work on EE, the new 4G network from the company formerly known as Everything Everywhere. That network will launch within the next few weeks but prices and speeds are yet to be confirmed. If you are on another network then you're out of luck: those networks have to wait for the spectrum auction before they can start their 4G services and they are unlikely to arrive before next summer.

SIM card

Yes, to save space Apple has replaced the micro-SIM card in the iPhone 4S with a smaller nano-SIM. Your network should swap the SIM for you, over the counter, at no charge.
What happened to the dock connector?
Another thing Apple has replaced in order to save space: the dock connector. It has been a familiar feature of Apple devices since it was introduced with the third-generation iPod in 2003 but Apple has now replaced it with a smaller 'Lightning' connector. That means the iPhone 5 won't connect to any existing docks or accessories you may have. For those, Apple will sell you an adaptor at £25.

Why doesn't it do

According to Apple's Phil Schiller, the iPhone 5 doesn't have NFC because it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. One day, an NFC-enabled phone could replace your wallet but that day is unlikely to come in the next 12 months, by which time Apple will be launching a new iPhone. Wireless charging, meanwhile, was ignored by Apple because it still means plugging something in to charge - it just doesn't plug into your phone.
There are plenty of features that other smartphones have that the iPhone 5 doesn't. If a feature is missing that's essential for you, then this needn't be your phone.

Release date and Price

Apple confirmed yesterday that the iPhone 5 will be released on September 21. Unlocked, the phone will cost £529 (16GB), £599 (32GB) and £699 (64GB). Prices will be lower with a contract and providers are likely to issue prices for those very soon.

Risky Business (what is your company doing ? )

Risky Business without Business Mobile and Cellular solutions (what is your company doing ? )

The smartphone industry will continue to evolve. Your smartphone is now like a computer in your pocket and only 1 percent of what it does is making or receiving calls.  It has already produced mobile/smartphone platforms, innovative ways to transmit mobile video, services that leverage phone locations, and services that allow customers to interact in multiple ways.

It has also devised ways to enable a customer to scan a product and ways that companies can create additional digital value associated with that product.
Mobile/ smartphone  payment systems will also evolve, as customers have already
proven themselves comfortable with making mobile purchases, using  apps stores and the new mobile banking payment systems.  Large and small companies will now need to figure out how to construct new models of mobile that incorporate on-the-go, pay-from-your-phone features.

Get Smart: Involve and talk to your on-the-go customers by using the specialist in business mobile and cellular solutions for both small and large corporations.

An innovative integrated business communications company called "Cellular Solutions" specializes in business mobile and cellular solutions for both small  and large corporations. Cellular Solutions has got the ability to evaluate your complete communications estate, then look not only to take the pain of management away, but also deliver fantastic savings for you, by integrating your business communications requirements. http://www.cellular-solutions.co.uk

If your company or agency has done recent customer research to understand buyers behavior on smartphones , review this information to see if you can incorporate it with your smartphone marketing plan and business communication .

Chargezone is a smartphone charging media company with brand focus advertising. When sponsored and wrapped with your clients brand, it could either be used as a free service or for generating revenue while improving your customers mobile experience and further developing your relationship with your on-the-Go customers by promoting any existing products like clients products, discount vouchers on smartphone,  tickets on smartphones, mobile phone payment or android/ iPhone apps on mobile phones. mobile charging station or Branding opportunity

Phone Charging Station: A Growing Tidal Wave of Opportunity

While mobile advertising is still a small category representing only $561 million in 2010,
a minuscule percentage of total advertising expenditures, it is one of the fastest-growing
categories with a projected growth rate of 27 percent a year for the next five years.1 As
text messaging use continues to rise, especially in Europe and Asia where text messaging
is used by over 80 percent of subscribers, mobility marketing is taking off.
It’s still unclear exactly how mobile users will embrace advertising. Sixty-six percent
of users say that advertising on this media is annoying.2 Other marketers say they have
success with mobile text messaging if the message is short, targeted, relevant to the user,
and interactive with a call to action. For example, a shopper at a local mall that receives
a message for a discount at her favorite store is likely to appreciate a personal text to
receive 20 percent off on purchases that day. Restaurants and nightclubs might offer customers
a free drink. A consumer product company might offer a coupon for a free trial
when the consumer is asked to enter a special promotion code. Or a music artist or store
could offer a free ringtone or music download.
As marketers experiment with different types of advertising, a combination of text
messaging and promotion might just be the key. If 47 percent of online users participate
in online contest or sweepstakes, and 31 percent use online coupons, then mobile users
may embrace it too.

How Companies Use Mobile Phones to compete and Drive Business

Mobile Phone the Game Changer!

Consumers want to access brands through alternative channels and mobile phones are
quickly becoming the preferred choice for communication. Most people don’t leave
home without their mobile phone, which often functions as a television, radio, CD player,
camera, and computer. It’s easy to see why mobility marketing is on the minds of
marketers everywhere.
Several factors are converging to create the perfect storm driving mobile adoption.
Mobile devices are smaller, faster, and have robust functionality. Pricing for service, both
phone and data, has dropped significantly. Creative and interesting applications are one
of the biggest factors driving mobile adoption. And of course, social networking is the
fuel that speeds interest in applications as people are eager to share “the next big thing”
with friends and family.

How Companies Use Mobile Phones to compete and Drive Business

Mobile devices are also a great way for companies to provide education and training relevant
to the user. I worked with a company that delivered bite-sized training over mobile
phones as a way to stay connected to their sales force and deliver product training. A
question with three multiple choice answers was served to the salesperson’s mobile
phone. The user selects an answer and is told if it’s right or wrong. It then displays the
answer and serves up the next question. For salespeople who find it difficult to schedule
time for online learning, this was a great mechanism to deliver training on the morning
commute or while waiting in a client’s lobby.
John Edwards used mobile marketing heavily during his presidential campaign run.
At events and rallies, he would invite people to pull out their cell phone and asked them
to enter a short code. His campaign organizers could then add the mobile numbers to
their campaign list and text messaging network. Edwards was able to raise thousands of
dollars using mobile marketing as a tactic to connect with his endorsers.
As you evaluate new methods of marketing to tap into the power of this media, it
would be wise to examine new applications and their use among your target audience.
For example:
With Shop Savvy, a phone is now a bar code scanner that can be pointed at any item
to receive a price comparison from nearby retailers as well as online retailers. This application
combines brick and clicks comparison shopping and urges businesses to find
another value proposition besides “low price.”
Mint Financial Services lets you manage your entire financial portfolio by tapping

Making Giving an Integral Part of your Business Model while Promoting your Brand.

Making Giving an Integral part of your Business Model for Smartphone Uses .

Give back a free service to the public as part of your smartphone strategy (business model) while promoting your brand.

Companies must recognize that the mobile revolution is more than just an additional sales channel or one more place to advertise. It involves fundamental changes in consumer behavior at all levels, and it changes and heightens expectations of customers.
The ultimate impact of this global phenomenon called Mobile or Smartphone will be bigger than the impact of television or the personal computer. It is everywhere, it is personal, and it is always on.

As mobile grows in all parts of the world, it is also affecting companies and brands in all categories. This is especially true in luxury brands, some of which may have waited along the digital sidelines until the capacity arrived to electronically replicate the luxury brand experience.
The reality is that, with all customers going mobile, luxury brands will be expected to enter that environment in one way or another.

No matter the brand, every company in every category will have to find its own play in mobile, because their customers, no matter the demographic, are there. Untethered consumers become totally empowered with features and functions that companies are making available to them via smartphones,

Businesses will also conduct research to determine what mobile customers want.
• As network speed increases, features will be more easily accessed and used.
• App developers will continue to innovate.
• People will see others using functions they don’t have and inquire about them.
• Customers will see the added value of using apps and mobile web features to make their lives easier.
• More businesses will enter the market to keep up with their competitors’

It would help your company focus on it's mobile business goals while following and engaging your customers.
Your company would also find solutions that drives engagement and provides value by giving back a free service to the public as part of your business model while promoting your brand.

Why the Large Screen on iPhone 5?

Apple Employees Test iPhone5 With Larger Screen.

Apple has two big-screen iPhones in use internally, reports 9to5Mac.
They're called N41AP (5,1) and N42AP (5,2).
In English:
Both phones sport screens that measure 3.999 inches diagonally.
Not only is the screen larger, but more pixels will appear in the display, making for a new resolution of 640 x 1136. Instead of blowing up the image, there will simply be more image to see.
The new phones are the same width as current models, but they're slightly longer, measuring 3.484 inches tall.
